It Started in Granny’s Saucepan
Before the distillery partnership. Before the packaging.
There was just a battered old pot on a stove — Granny’s saucepan, where the very first crystals were tested and stirred by hand. The fire was gentle. The method slow. And even now, though the scale has grown, the ethos remains the same: honour the land, the craft, and the quiet power of things made with care.
What began on a family stove now carries the flavour of the coast— the wild rocks of Antrim, the sacred strands of Derry — where sea and spirit meet in reverent rhythm.
And yes — we still use that same saucepan today during our immersive culinary experiences with guests of Dunluce Lodge and visitors to the Causeway Coast. Because some things are more than tools — they are traditions. And traditions deserve to be passed on, not shelved.

Bushmills Whiskey Sea Salt
Where Sea Meets Spirit
A quiet union of ocean and oak — shaped by the rugged Antrim and Derry coastlines, where the Atlantic wind carries centuries of story.
Crafted in partnership with Bushmills Distillery, this sea salt begins just miles from the world’s oldest licensed whiskey distillery, on ancestral land where the Ó Catháin clan once watched both tides and troubles roll in. Today, we rise with the sea to hand-harvest in rhythm with the moon — creating something rare, refined, and deeply rooted.
The Taste
Infused slowly, never rushed, our salt draws in the warmth of triple-distilled Bushmills Irish Whiskey, allowing the smoky notes to settle into each crystal like old stories into stone.
Expect a subtle smokiness, a hint of malted warmth, and the clarity of the North Atlantic — not overpowering, but unforgettable.
It is salt with a past — and a place.
“Bushmills holds the spirit. We hold the sea. This isn’t just salt and whiskey — it’s two crafts from one coastline, brought together with care, memory, and reverence.”
— Claire Louise O’Kane, Mussenden Sea Salt
TOAST New York — A Transatlantic Debut
Mussenden Sea Salt was honoured to be invited to TOAST — a private culinary gathering held in New York City, curated by Tom Colicchio, the award-winning chef and face of Top Chef.
The invitation formed part of our participation in the AwakenHub Trade Mission — a purposeful movement supporting Irish female founders in bringing their vision across the Atlantic, with engagements in both New York and Boston.
Held in support of the Children’s Hospital at Bellevue, Mussenden Sea Salt was proud to present, in collaboration with Bushmills Irish Whiskey, a pairing of offerings crafted on the North Coast and shaped by spirit:
-
Our Bushmills Whiskey Sea Salt Collection — cold-infused, hand-harvested in rhythm with the tide, and matured in the stillness of triple-distilled tradition.
-
Our signature 24K Gold Sea Salt — served as a cocktail rim, a glinting thread of salt, light, and gold.
This was not simply a launch.
It was our first step into international waters — not loud, not rushed, but deliberate. A quiet honouring of land, lineage, and craft.
